Mid-Morning Primary Election Update

Jackson, Miss.—As of 10:00 am, the Secretary of State’s Office received approximately 150 of calls into the Agency’s election’s hotline.  Those issues include:  finding a polling location, minor technical issues with voting machines, and voter registration questions.

“In comparison to previous years, as of right now, the 2014 Primary Election Day has been very quiet in Mississippi,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.  “The limited number of calls coming into our Office, coupled with the lack of activity on the Statewide Election Management System and reports from our observers, indicate we have had light turnout thus far.”

The Secretary of State’s Office has also had limited calls regarding voter ID.

“We have devoted countless hours of time and training to election officials across the State.  No news is good news,” adds Secretary Hosemann.  “We believe Mississippians were ready to put this issue behind us.  It was time for us to close this chapter in our history.  We have done so today.”

Polls will be open til 7:00pm tonight.

Voters with issues regarding the election are encouraged to contact their local Circuit Clerk’s Office, or, contact the Secretary of State’s Office at 1-844-MSVoter.
