JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi Secretary of State's Office is pleased to report a successful General Election Day in 81 of 82 Mississippi counties. 

Our elections team fielded a high volume of calls to the Elections Hotline and were able to communicate issues to the local authorities for immediate action.

Minor incidents reported in the 81 counties included:

• Machine calibration issues in two counties for a brief amount of time
• Campaigning within 150 feet
• A group of individuals reported loitering near a precinct

Incidents reported in Hinds County included:

• One precinct did not open until 7:15 a.m.
• One precinct conducted emergency balloting for an undisclosed amount of time
• Nine (9) precincts ran out of ballots

Our Technology Services team reported no cybersecurity incidents other than the My Election Day portal which experienced a brief outage due to heavy traffic. Upon adding an additional server, the resource became fully functioning again. For those who may have experienced trouble locating a specific address in My Election Day, you are encouraged to report this to your county circuit clerk as this information is pulled directly from the data they enter into the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS).

Mississippi had a phenomenal General Election due to their hard work, and the credit belongs to them," said Secretary Michael Watson.

"Leading up to Election Day, our team conducted weekly conference calls and distributed weekly memos for all local election officials. Circuit Clerks and Election Commissioners were provided legal parameters for every phase of the election, including guidance for implementation. Through this collaborative effort, we noted the vast majority of counties reported a flawless General Election. Outside of the issues in one county, Mississippians should be proud of the success of Tuesday's election."

As a reminder, the Secretary of State's Office has no enforcement authority over Election Commissioners or Circuit Clerks. Outside of any criminal activity, these elected officials can only be held accountable by their constituents.
