JACKSON, Miss. – Candidates may begin qualifying today, January 2, 2025, for the 2025 municipal elections.

Candidates may access the Secretary of State's official 2025 Candidate Qualifying Guide which provides essential information for those seeking elected office. Candidates should familiarize themselves with the legal qualifications required to seek and hold office, as well as the qualifying procedures.

The qualifying deadline for all candidates for municipal offices is January 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

2025 Municipal Election Day Dates:

• April 1 - Primary Election Day
• April 22 - Primary Runoff Election Day
• June 3 - General Election Day
  • ***Note: Municipal general elections are decided upon plurality, meaning the candidate with the most votes wins (even if it is well below 50% + 1).
     

2025 Special Election Day Dates:

• November 4 - Regular Special Election Day
• December 2 - Special Runoff Election Day
