Secretary Watson Announces John Lewis Youth Leadership Award Recipients

JACKSON — Secretary of State Michael Watson has announced the John Lewis Youth Leadership Award co-recipients for 2022-- Maisie Brown of Hinds County and Bobby Hudson of Harrison County.

The award, created in 2021 by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), seeks to recognize gifted, civic-minded, young individuals in the state each year.

"It is my honor to recognize Maisie and Bobby as Mississippi's recipients of this year’s John Lewis Youth Leadership Award," said Secretary Watson. "Their actions exemplify late Congressman John Lewis’ commitment to making their communities a better place to live and succeed. We are grateful for their dedication to the State of Mississippi."

Hudson, a student at the University of Mississippi (UM), was nominated by Joseph “Jody” Holland, associate professor at UM.

Brown, a Jackson State University student, received nominations from State Senator David Blount and State Representative Zakiya Summers, both representing Hinds County.

This year’s recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Jackson during the 2023 legislative session.
