STATEMENT OF MISSISSIPPI SECRETARY OF STATE MICHAEL WATSON

“As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office is communicating regularly with the Governor's Office, MEMA and state health officials to monitor developments of the outbreak. The CDC and the Mississippi State Department of Health have recommended necessary precautions to be taken for the safety and well-being of our citizens. To protect you and your loved ones, the Secretary of State’s Office encourages you to utilize our website, sos.ms.gov, and make every effort to conduct your business via our online resources.

Our website houses several databases and online filing capabilities, making it easy for you to receive service at your fingertips. If you are not able to access the appropriate service online, please contact our office at 601.359.1350. All other numbers and email addresses for each division can be found on our website. Our team is prepared to assist you and answer any additional questions you may have.

Additionally, while the pending Republican runoff in the 2nd Congressional District is scheduled for March 31, 2020, our office is considering all options, including the possible postponement of the election. In conjunction with the Governor’s Office, MEMA, and MSDH, we continue to finalize our plans and will post timely updates on our website. In the meantime, our office will continue to conduct the peoples’ business.

While President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency signaled some turbulent days ahead, our office encourages people to stay calm, practice good personal hygiene behavior, and be smart about group interactions. We are resilient people, and I am confident we will walk through this together as long as we keep our heads on our shoulders. Lauren, the girls, and I continue to pray for the health and safety of all Mississippians.”
